Lift table with passenger ride

The task in this project was to transport a pallet or trolley including an accompanying person from street level to the room below. Due to the tight space conditions, no additional staircase could be built at this point, so the trained employee had to be able to ride along at the lift table.

The lift table has a load capacity of 1000 kg and a platform size of 1775 x 1300 mm. The level difference is 900 mm.

Additional equipment from the lift table included railings, a portal as fall protection, a monitored gate, tear plate on the platform, a lattice shirt as underflow protection and 2 additional buttons.

In the case of this lift table with passenger transport , we not only helped with the planning, but also carried out the assembly and acceptance with an authorized civil engineer. There was a bit of a challenge here when it came to delivery and insertion. The customer’s door was narrower than the lift table, so we had to deliver it set up on a special metal pallet. It was only in the building that we were able to have the lift table from this pallet and swivel it horizontally by means of chain hoists. The rest of the assembly was then child’s play for our experienced fitters.

The lift table was handed over to our satisfied customer in 2020 and is still looked after by our service staff.

Lift table with accompanying person at the lower stop

If the lift table is located at the lower stop, the trained employee can open the gate. To do this, the mechanical bolt must first be moved and the gate must be opened with muscle power.
The lift table can only be lifted when the gate and the bolt are properly closed again.

The gap between the lift table and the floor is 15mm. This makes it easy to load with trolleys or pallet trucks.

We have covered the wall at the back with a smooth sheet metal so that there are no shear or crush points. Signage with operating instructions was also necessary, which we supplied.

Lift table with lattice shirt as underflow protection

If the lift table is located at the upper stop, the area under the lift table must be secured. This is necessary because you can’t see under the hydraulic scissor lift table with a passenger ride either from the upper stop or from the platform.

Here, the customer pretended to use a lattice shirt or a chain curtain. This ensures that no person or goods get under the lift table and are injured or damaged.

In addition to the lattice shirt, the safety strip prescribed by the standard is of course installed.
According to the standard specification, this may be mounted offset a maximum of 8 mm from the outermost edge inwards. As soon as the bar feels resistance when lowered, the lift table stops. Only after a short lift, you can go further down again.

The gate on the platform cannot be opened in this lifting position because the forced contact is closed.

Lift table ready for loading at the upper stop

At the upper stop, the employee can push the pallet or trolley over the narrow side onto the lift table. He then stands on the lift table and can use the control element on the platform to lower the lift table in dead man’s mode.

A galvanized tear plate was mounted on the platform. This provides appropriate anti-slip protection and protects the lift table from moisture.

The two railings on the long sides of the scissor lift table are permanently mounted. The gate at the rear is equipped with a forced contact and cannot be opened during the stroke and in the top position.

For loading, the chain can be easily unhooked with the carabiner.

Gantry on the lift table as fall protection

The gantry is built on the lift table platform and serves as fall protection from the upper stop when the lift table is at the bottom.

The portal then serves as a railing at the upper stop and is prescribed according to the standard from a level difference of 500mm. It is allowed up to a height of 1600 mm.

According to the standard, the red and white chain is not necessary, but the labour inspector wanted an additional safety device for people who want to climb down crawling. Often, the installation of a chain is done faster than a long discussion with the authorities 🙂
